What is Body Oil?

When it comes to body moisturizers, you are probably most familiar with body lotions. While lotions are water-based, body oils, as the name suggests, are oil-based. For instance, our nourishing body oil is made from a blend of lightweight oils such as apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil, musk melon oil, and plum oil.

Oils closely mimic the skin's natural sebum, which means they can penetrate deeper to keep the skin hydrated. They are particularly beneficial for dry skin prone to eczema or psoriasis, as they can replenish the natural oils that your skin struggles to produce. Contrary to popular belief, lightweight oils are also suitable for those with oily and acne-prone skin, as they can help balance the natural oil production.

Benefits of Body Oil

  • Oils Moisturize Your Skin: Oils act as occlusive agents, creating a physical barrier on the skin that prevents transepidermal water loss and locks in moisture.

  • Oils Are Non-Greasy: If you dislike using lotions because they feel sticky, body oil will be your best friend. It is lightweight and instantly absorbs into your skin, leaving a soft glow without any greasiness.

  • Oils Soften and Smooth Your Skin: They can act as emollients, softening and smoothing the skin. This is because, when your skin dries out or cracks, gaps begin to form between your skin cells, and oils can fill these gaps.

  • Oils Improve Overall Skin Condition: Consistent use of body oil enhances skin tone, texture, and elasticity. It rejuvenates your skin, giving you a healthy and radiant complexion for both face and body.

When Should You Use Body Oil?

As you may already know, oils are occlusive agents that help lock moisture into the skin. Therefore, they work best when applied to damp skin after a bath or shower, allowing them to absorb into soft, prepared skin. Body oils are excellent for moisturizing your skin after exfoliation and/or shaving. If you plan to use body lotion for additional hydration, be sure to finish with body oil to seal all the beneficial ingredients into your skin.

Body oil can also be used as a protective layer during shaving. It can be a better alternative to shaving creams and foams, as it softens the hair and skin without harsh ingredients, allowing the razor to glide more smoothly.

Lastly, body oil can be used all year round. Changes in weather can be a major culprit for dry and flaky skin. Cold winter air, humidity fluctuations, or the hot summer sun can damage the skin barrier and contribute to dryness. Body oils will soothe your skin and restore its suppleness!
